56th BDE CERFP Training

Welcome

Welcome to the virtual home of the 56th Brigade New York Guard - the Mid-Hudson Brigade. Serving the area just north of New York City, 56th Brigade units are located as far south as Orangeburg and Yonkers and as far north as Kingston, Poughkeepsie and Newburgh.

The Brigade Headquarters is located in Peekskill, NY, situated in the historic State Armory Building on 955 Washington Street. The Armory, dedicated in August 1932 by then Governor and Presidential candidate Franklin Delano Roosevelt, observed its 70th anniversary in August 2002.

The Brigade is commanded by COL Mike Hodges (USMA '77). He is supported by deputy commander LT. COL David Warager and Command Sergeant Major Richard Romano.

The mission of the New York Guard  is to augment, assist and support the New York Army National Guard and other components of the organized Militia and agencies of the State of New York, as directed. This mission became critically apparent with the activation of State Guard units in the wake of the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center. The 56th Brigade responded to the call immediately and was tasked with providing security and logistical support to operations serving Ground Zero.

The Role of The New York Guard

  • Provide augmentation and support to other State Military Components in the execution of their State Missions and their in-state federal training.

  • Provide Aid to Civil Authorities and Humanitarian Support to the State Emergency Management Office, State and Local Governmental Agencies during domestic emergencies.

  • Conduct missions to enhance the quality of life in our communities and for our citizens.

  • Support the mobilization and deployment of New York National Guard units.

  • Perform other missions as assigned by the Army Division, NY Guard.

  • Be prepared to assume the State Defense Missions of other State Military Components upon their federalization.

The New York Guard offers an exceptional opportunity for citizens to serve their state and country.
